Art Lessons by Tom Nieman | Drawing | Color | Painting | Mindset
Periodically I will offer art lessons within the community. The primary aim in doing so is to help make painting and drawing more accessible to those who are interested in learning. The secondary benefits of doing so are innumerable - simply too many to list.
Expected outcomes for those who follow through with the lesson plan
By the end of our four weeks together you will have :
A completed drawing and improved understanding of values (use of light and dark areas in your art)
A completed painting
An increased sense of confidence in your ability to continue to create art
Here is some information on how they will work:
Each class will meet on video conference for four Sunday's at 2pm EST. Each session will be 45min - 60 min in length. Each Monday during our time together I will offer a prompt intended to help you start a small creative project that you can work on during the remainder of the week. Each Friday during this same period I will offer a brief video demo and check-in intended to help you continue to make progress on the prompt from the prior Monday.
Session 1 will include a quick course overview and a painting demo. No materials are needed for this session although you may want to take notes so pencil and paper may be helpful. All you need to bring is an open mind and a positive attitude.
Session 2 will consist of a brief drawing demo and then some time for you to work on your drawing assignment and ask questions.
Session 3 will consist of a brief color mixing demo and a brief discussion related to practical use of color in paintings. This session will be a precursor to the painting prompt.
Session 4 will provide a brief discussion on mindset and some ideas intended to help you finish your painting and provide encouragement to help you keep creating beyond these lessons.
