This recent painting of the Deer Head Inn is the third painting I've completed of this historic building.
“May Flowers at The Deer Head Inn”
20 1/4” x 13” oil on panel. Painted en Plein Air.
Deer Head Inn, the oldest continuously running jazz club in the country and "Home of Jazz in the Pocono Mountains" is situated in historic Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania.
Whether listening to live music, enjoying a light meal, cocktail or simply enjoying the view of its covered porch and wisteria blooms, My wife Janine and I have enjoyed this wonderful institution for years.
Deer Head Inn sits on Route 611 in an area that has been closed for nearly one year due to a rock slide.
Route 611 is a major artery which connects New Jersey to Pennsylvania and Southeastern Pennsylvania to the Pocono Mountains normally takes motorists through Delaware Watergap Borough. So this road closure must be devastating for the small businesses that line Main Street.
While this situation is terrible the closure does offer Plein Air artists access to views that they normally would not have access to.
Here are a few photos showing the progression of this painting.
If you have the opportunity to do so, take a trip over to the Delaware Watergap borough and check out some of the shops there. I'm sure they'd really appreciate your patronage.
This guide does an excellent job of summarizing, all the shops and businesses within the area https://www.poconomountains.com/blog/post/the-insiders-guide-to-delaware-water-gap/
Cheers!
