There's a first time for everything...

Years passed by and I allowed resistance to win. I wanted to create art using oil paints. I wanted to learn and understand how to build paintings of the beautiful scenes I witnessed while driving, hiking, on runs or hanging out in my community. Yet I let all the excuses in my mind drown out my desire to do something I knew I would enjoy, that would be healthy for me and that I could eventually get pretty good at.

During the onset of the COVID Pandemic I had a little accident, leaving me with a broken foot and some torn ligaments in my foot and ankle. Grappling with less mobility, a little more free time and a feeling of having nothing to lose I started painting. Soon, thanks to some very generous people in my life, I was able to leverage this new vocation to raise funds for causes that are dear to me. Since then I have produced over 40 paintings. While I cannot help but wonder how much farther along I might be if I fought a little harder to overcome the resistance I encountered in the past, I am grateful for where I am on my journey as a painter at this time.

Here are my two most recent paintings.

Here is my first full long form video of the process I followed to paint the sunset at Cape May, NJ. It includes voice over narration. The editing is quite rough but if you are interested in seeing the full process of building this painting (or simply are suffering from insomnia... 🤣😂) feel free to take a look.

If you would like to start painting and don't know where to begin, please reach out to me. I'd be happy to point you in the direction of some resources that have helped me tremendously over the past few months.

Thanks for viewing this post. I hope you have a great day!

Stay safe & be well, Tom
